John Dillwyn Llewelyn (Swansea: 1810 - 1882)
A Fisherman's Net & Basket, Caswell / this is one of the images which John Dillwyn Llewelyn exhibited at the Exhibition of the Photographic Society of London in 1854. The exhibition, which ran for two months, was held at the Gallery of the Society of British Artists in Suffolk Street, Pall Mall and was attended by Queen Victoria and Prince Albert. While Prince Albert requested two views of Caswell from this exhibition, at the following year's exhibition, Queen Victoria took JDL's image of his family on Guy Fawkes Day for the Royal family's collection at Windsor. This image may also have been of value to JDL's friend, Hugh Falconer, a leading palaeontologist, for whom JDL took photographs of rock formations.
