Worms-Head in Tenby Bay - William Daniell R.A.
Theme : Art and Culture
In 1814, the artist and engraver, William Daniell R. A. set out on a voyage around Britain's coastline with the intention of recording the people and places he came across. His voyage, from Land's End to John o' Groats via the west coast, returning to Land's End via the east coast, took him eleven years to complete. At the end, he had created a collection of 308 aquatint engravings that have been described as the last great artist's voyage before the invention of photography made such feats unnecessary. The original printing plates are now in the possession of the Tate Gallery Publications Department. This print, from the collection is entitled The Worms-Head in Tenby Bay. It is inscribed - Drawn & Engraved by William Daniell. Published by Messrs.Longman & Co. Paternoster Row & William Daniell, 9 Cleveland St. Fitzroy Square, London. Aug.1st 1814.
