John Dillwyn Llewelyn (Swansea: 1810 - 1882)
Above the Upper Lake, Penllergare / in John Dillwyn Llewelyn: pioneer photographer, Gerald Gabb has encapsulated the essence of this photograph, "This was taken on 25th August, 1854. It would be difficult to take a more beautiful photograph of a summer evening with all the complicated equipment of today. The distance is less focused, a trick JDL used in a lot of his pictures. There is also the contrast of the vague mistiness with the shimmering lake, and again with the dark lines of the punt. On the left is another camera, purposely left there, and he has even caught its reflection in the water. JDL was probably working in co-operation with Philip Delamotte, both taking pictures."
c.1850
