What 's on the site so far.

The HOME PAGE consists of a brief introduction to the aims of the
swanseaheritage.net project.

OUR VENUES identifies the individual locations that together make up Swansea’s Museum Service: Swansea Museum, the Glynn Vivian Art Gallery and the Museum Stores at Landore. So, whether you are interested in Swansea’s past or in the contemporary art scene or have ever wondered what happens to objects when they are not on display, there is a route to “useful information” for you to follow.

In THEMES we have taken Swansea’s history and divided it into six themes that we hope reflect the most fascinating aspects of the city’s past. Just ‘click on’ your chosen theme, for example, World War Two. This takes you to a brief introduction to the subject plus a list of sub-categories that help you to narrow down your search (e.g. Civil Defence, the Blitz, Home Front, Children in Wartime). Click on any one of these to be taken to a brief description of the topic plus a choice of selected articles. Click on a chosen image or its caption to be taken to a detailed description of that object.
From this page it is also possible to access a variety of different options:
It is possible to enlarge the image in order to see it in greater detail.
It is possible to print off a copy of the page.
While you can also move to another object within your chosen category, move to another theme or take ‘pot luck’ on the RANDOM OBJECT selector.
