Photographs, audio and video clips from the South Wales Coalfield Collection, which provides an insight into life in the South Wales Coalfield during the 19th and 20th centuries. The interviews range from significant political and trade union leaders to the men who worked in the coal pits. The photographs illustrate all aspects of life in the coalfield.

Here may be found some of the "jewels" from the collections of virtually every library, museum and archive in Wales. These consist of artefacts, documents, photographs and much more, illustrating Welsh life from the earliest times to the recent past.

The collection includes images and documents relating to the North Wales slate industry, and the associated communities. It is subdivided into quarrying history, quarrying techniques, examples of uses for slate, transport infrastructure for shipping slate from the quarries, quarrying proprietors, and pay strikes and living conditions.
