The Association of the Friends of the Glynn Vivian Art Gallery was founded in 1958 to support the gallery and encourage appreciation of the visual arts in the locality.

It is an autonomous body, which is a registered charity, and remains independent of the gallery while maintaining a close working relationship with GVAG and its staff.

The Friends president and vice president are eminent members of the art community.
