Lady Huntingdon's Chapel in Adelaide Street c.1860, the chapel is already showing signs of disrepair and by 1887 had been demolished and the Exchange Buildings built on the site. The railings of Swansea Museum can be seen on the right. Selina Hastings, Countess of Huntingdon (1707-1791) was widowed in 1746, she then spent the fortune (estimated at £100,000) left to her on building chapels in England & Wales. This chapel was designed by William Jernegan, 1787/89.

| This is just a snippet of information which might interest the reader. A lectern which was used in Lady Huntingdon's Chapel was gifted to York Place Baptist Church, York Street, Swansea. It is in the form of a large golden eagle and can still be seen today in the Church schoolroom. It has obviously had some restoration work done to it, and shows some slight damage, but it still exists in the Chapel today. |
