| Over the centuries Swansea has been home to
a considerable number of inhabitants who in one way or another have contributed
to the history and development of the town/city/county. Some of the names
would not be recognised outside the town boundaries but others have gone
on to achieve international acclaim. Swansea, as would be expected of Wales’
second city, has produced sportsmen and musicians but there have also been
explorers, artists, scientists, actors, poets, industrialists and pioneering
photographers. In keeping with all Welsh communities, Swansea has also produced
its quota of ‘characters’ those people whose actions or achievements
have guaranteed them a place in local folk history. The town even has its
own ‘famous’dog! It is individual’s activities and interests
that form the web of community life and which over time fuel community development.
